So it's been a while since I've posted last.  That's because the Thompson family has been busy.  Busy with potty training!!  Yes, fun times(I guess you can call it that!).  No, Miss O has done pretty well this time.   Let's not talk about the first attempt.  This time we are using bribery.  Yes, M&M's seem to be the missing link of the potty training process.  The strange thing is, she loves the brown ones!  Who loves brown M&M's?!?!  I guess my daughter does!  I think there's only 2 left.  Anyway, she is doing well.  Yesterday and this morning she didn't have an accident!  And she even told her teachers at MOPS today that she had to go potty!  She did have a slight miss this afternoon but she is learning after all and I feel we may be able to take short trips again.  Being stuck in the house all week is the pits!  Thank God I have a wonderful husband who was able to stay home with the children on Thursday AND Friday nights last week so I could get out and have some grown-up time away from the potty chair!  Anyway, that's the update on our life.  Not very exciting.  And I don't have any pictures- you won't want to see them anyway! :)
Here are a few random ones from last week:
It was vacuum day so all the dinning room chairs were in the front room.  Of course the clean sheets from the day before were still on the couch so I decided we needed to make a tent:

I think this next one is funny.  O was sleeping one afternoon and J was not.  I went to go get a cup of ice water and dropped an ice cube.  J decided he was going to chase it around.

Did I mention he was chasing it with his nose/mouth? :) How does he bend like that??

He did finally get it.  Then I took it away from him because I thought he might swallow it.

Good thing I vacuumed that morning!
An update on my picky eater... I'm buying whatever I can to see if I can get him to put any food in his mouth besides Cheerios and Gerber Puffs and cheese(he added that one last  week).  I bought these "biter biscuits."  We didn't get them with O because she put food in her mouth(as long as it wasn't "wet") so I didn't know what to expect.  Well they are long sticks.  I wasn't sure what to do with them so I broke off pieces and put them on his tray.  All of the pieces went on the floor(along with the banana pieces and whatever else we tried that night).  Later that same supper I was about to clean up and just gave him the big part I broke pieces off to see how fast it would go on the floor and this is what happened:
Yes, he is eating it.  Apparently it tastes ALOT better if it's a whole biscuit stick and not broke into pieces.  I gave him a whole one today too and he ate it.  What can you do?!? :)
Last picture.  This is O watching Blues Clues last night.
Fun times! :)

Have a great day!

Happy birthday and other random things

So I should be doing something productive like cleaning or getting ready for my garage sale tomorrow since both kids are sleeping but I just don't feel like it. :)
Happy birthday
Tuesday was my little man's birthday!  I can't believe he is one already!  This year has seemed to go so fast- faster than O's first year.  Anyway, we didn't have a great first experience with birthday cake at O's first birthday party so we thought we would prepare J for his cake experience.  It went... well, you can see...
maybe it will be good...

almost there...

I'm not even sure why he made this face because I'm pretty sure he didn't get anything in his mouth.  Although this is the face he makes whenever anything accidentally gets in his mouth(besides a Cheerio or Puffs)

We even tried chocolate frosting

Yes, he is looking at us like we are crazy.  But we are looking at him like he is crazy- what kid doesn't like cupcakes especially with chocolate frosting?!?!

In case you are wondering, Miss O didn't have any problems with this cupcake thing...

Doesn't it look like we have given her the greatest thing in the world! :)

Random things
While we were cleaning the basement and the garage for the garage sale tomorrow I came across a cabbage patch kid I had when I was younger.  To be truthful, I came across alot of them(you gotta keep them in case you have a daughter to give them to someday!) but one didn't really have a good box anymore so she became O's new friend.  Yes, I think she has a new favorite doll(at least for now).  Since we only have 6 "babies" in our house I decided this one should have a real name.  So O and I went through a bunch of names(ok, I said them and she repeated them) and came up with Lucy for this doll.  O said the name well the first few times but now it sounds like "Gooucy."  Oh well.

We went outside to play yesterday.  You can tell fall is coming.  I won't mind fall so much it I didn't know winter was coming after it.
O helping me sweep

Actually the pile I had was all over the driveway again by the time we went in but that's ok.

One more picture.  O has decided it's fun to take her daddy's glasses off and wear them.  I must be rubbing off on my husband since after I showed him this picture he said "that's a good blog picture." :)

Now I'm off to do something productive... maybe.

They're done!

I started a blog last Friday however little Miss O decided not to take a nap so my plans were changed.  Since then life has just gotten in the way.... cleaning the garage and going through stuff for a garage sale, kids, church, and getting ready for MOPS!  This year I'm the hospitality coordinator.  Among other responsibilities, one is making table center pieces at the beginning of the year.  Yes, I am a procrastinator and really started working on these in the last week.  I have been trying to think of ideas though.  That's my problem- sometimes I just have a hard time getting the idea in the first place.  So I talked to our Creative Arts coordinator and got online and found some ideas.  Our theme this year is Momology: the art and science of mothering.  So we have paint cans with science elements on them(i.e. calcium/neon) as the table names.  In the paint cans are paint brushes with pens attached and paint sticks with the name of each mom who will be sitting at that table.  The hardest part of this project was attaching the paint brushes to the pens.  I hot glued them(had to buy one!) and then wrapped stem wire around the hot glued part to make it look a little better.  I had to use pliers, wire cutters, and needle nose pliers for this project!  Motherhood is art and science!  But they are finally done!  Here's some pictures:

Now for what we did last Monday(Labor Day).  Here's the short story and some pictures since it's 11:15 and I have to leave the house with two children no later thank 7:50 tomorrow morning.  We went to an indoor play area for little kids.  O loved the slides!

J basically just crawled around until he found the mirrors.  It was so funny because he was just laughing and hitting the mirrors.  I got a few good pictures of him:

Here James is helping O on a swing.  She liked it for a while and then decided to get off without telling James so she kind of fell.  She later got on it again but it took awhile.  I think J wants to swing now!
Sorry about the pictures again.  Someone really needs to show me how to fix this!

Labor Day weekend

We were suppose to go to St. Louis this weekend to visit James' mom and sister but Miss O decided to get a double ear infection and Mr. J had a snotty nose/coughing virus so our weekend away was cancelled.  We did do a few fun things around KC though(and hopefully didn't infect too many other kids!)
On Friday we went to see Clifford the Big Red Dog at crown center.  O was a little shy at first and then got into it.  There were alot of kids there!  Here she is in the kitchen:
Here's J in the "backyard."  The things he is looking at spin.  He loved spinning them!

Sorry you have to turn your head.  I can't figure our how to flip the picture! :)
One more of O, she is at the "sand box."  She built this herself!

For lunch we went to Fritz's.  For those of you who do not know, Fritz's is a hamburger place that serves your food to you by a train!  The train in the picture below runs on a track all around the restaurant.  The little tray below the train carries your food to your table in a box.  Once it get to your table it is lowered down.  It's hard to explain but every cool!
The kids loved it!!  And J ate a whole jar of veggies! (see previous blog to see why this was such an accomplishment!)  James asked if he needed to build a train track in our house.  I said yes. :)  The morning was great but J didn't get his morning nap so this is what he looked like at the end of lunch:
We did something fun today but I will need to blog about that later.  O just woke up from her nap and she always wants to type!
Oh, and the food combinations from last blog, those are O's new creations.  She actually loves the peaches in mustard and has done it several times!  Seems gross to me!
